SOUTHERN' MARKETS.' By Telegraph—iVss Chrlstchurch, June 30. Tile wheat market keeps very firm, a.nd some seem to think that'as the Commonwealth Government hias purchased a line of steamers to carry away the surplus wheat, it will lessen the possibility of Australian wlieat or flour being sent to New. Zealand. It was, however, stated recently that only about one-third of tho surplus would be got away by the end" of iT,une, so that there is a very large quantity still to export, of which the proportion that; can be carried by the new steamers before, next harvest will bo small. There is not much wheat offering by growors, but it is reported that a large sole of wheat in second hands has been made to a local miller. The oats market is firm, but no local business is bei'ng done. OatsheaJ chaff'is again firmer, tho demand being purely local, the wat weather having caused stocks on hand to run short. A fairly largo amouut of business bos been done in potatoes, mostly at £6 per ton, at country stations, but in some cases at over this figure. TlTere are, however, few orders coming to hand.
