'A Scottish poetess has written the following in.the Rev. Goorgo'Tulloch's autograph book. She was at one time private secretary to the I'rinoess Christian, and is a loyal Scot:— The corn was turning, hairst nas near: But lang afore the scythes could start, A sough .o' war rrchl through ihe land, An' stirred it. to its ben most htort. An' bairdly men fra strath an glen ; An' shepherds frae the bucht vin' hill, Will show them a', whate'er Ufa', Auld Scotland oount3 for something ' still. , . " Half-mast the castle banner droops, Tho laird's lament was Tilayed yettreen, An' mony a widowed cottar wife Is greetin' "t her shank lileen, 111 freedom's cause, for ane that fa's, We'll glean the glens an' send them • .three, To clip the reirin' eagle's claws, An' drook his feathers i' tho sua. For gallant. loons, in. brocks mi' Icon,. Are leaving shop an' yard an' noil. A'lccen to show baitli freend on' foe Aukl Scotland counts for something still. The grim way fathers, bent wi' years, Come stridin' thro' the niuirlaud mist Wi' beardless lads scarce by wi' school, But eager as the lave to 'list.. We'vo flashed o' yore the braid claymore. On mony a bloody field afar. But ne'er did.skirlin' pines afore Crv on sae urgently to war.
