JURYMEN
OBLIGATION OF TRAVELLERS. A deputation from the United Commercial Travellers' Association, consisting of Messrs. H. B. Gould (genoral secretary). Carlton, Carr, Brown, and F. W. Manton, waited on ' the Hon. .Dr. R, M'Nab (Minister of Justice) yesterday, to request that country commercial travellers might be exempt from the obligation of serving upon juries. It was pointed out that country commercial travellers had certain round trips to carry out, and that if tliey were held up for jury purposes a considerable loss to themselves and their firms resulted. Specific instances were cited in which firms had lost orders in the neighbourhood of .£IOOO through their country traveller being detained upon juries. It was not asked that town travellers should be exempted. Incidentally, it was mentioned that in New South Wales a definite Ministerial promise had been given that legislation would bo introduced to exempt travellers from serving upon juries. The Hon. Dr. M'Nab replied that ho was favourably disposed to granting the request, but difficulty lay in the fact that no legislation dealing with juries was in 6iglit this session. There were, however, one or two little matters that Cabinet might well allow to be brought forward, but he could not say whether this would be one of tlieni. . He would look into the question, and, if possible, cany into effect this favourable feeling he had towards granting the request.
