BATTLE PRACTICE WITH MACHINE GUNS
TRAINING OUR HEN AT PAPAWAI. With, tho gradual development in nil branches of advanced training which are carried out at Featherston, every reinforcement works nuder conditions more nearly approaching those of actual servico conditions. One of the latest developments concerns the use of machinegunn at the Papawai range in a form of training known as battle practice. The guns are masked in various ways. Some are behind sandbags, some have their bases sunk in tho ground with only the barrels exposed, while others are in trenches, of which a fairly comprehensive series has been made at Papawai. Tho trial of the machine-gun sections of tho Fifteenth Reinforcements at battle practice, when it is probable that some of the now Lowis machine-guns may be used, will be a stirring spectacle, as well as providing excellent preparatory training .for tho troops ore they go to tho front.
