Drug 2 6 0 - Scoullar Co 13 6 — WOOL, SKIN, AND HIDE SALES. The fortnightly Bales of wool, skin and hides were held yestorday by the various brokers.
| Messrs. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report good competition for all classes of produce, Blieepskins showinc a further advance of about Id. per lb., and good calfskins realising as high as 14d. Other produce sold well at late rates. All halo wool is being retained for tho next special crutehing sale on July 7. A large catalogue will bo submitted. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. report:—Wo offered a catalogue of JSCO sheepskins, 4CO hides and calf, in addition to 80 bales of wool and sundry packages of tallow. Prices for skins showed an advance of Jd. per lb, Hides were firm at last sales' quotations, and the odd lots of wool and tallow sold 1 fully up to - last sale's rates. Buyers competed freely for all offerings. Tho next sale .will be ,held on July 7,' when a large catalogue of crutchings is anticipated. All the ovorsea buyers will'be present dt this sale.. Messrs. W. and G Turnbull and Co., Ltd.. report that prices for fckins showed, a rise of Jd. to Jd. per lb. Tallow and hides both sold at prices on a par with late rates.
Bales were also held "by the United Farmers' Co-op. Association and tho Wairarapa Farmers' Co-op. Association. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, - Ltd., report that they offered a full catalogue of all kinds of produce, including a., few bales of wool. The main portion of the wool is being held for the crutching sale on July 7. The market was firm at last sales' rates, with tho exception of cow hides, which showed an increase of about 3-Bd. to 3d. per lb.
' The. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.', Ltd., report that tho catalogues were not large, a.s.nearly all wool in bales is being held for the crutching sale on: July 7. Excellent prices were obtained for., skins, and hides. Cow hides were id., higher, and calfskins sold. at advanced rates. The firm obtained a record price of 14jd. for a small lot of calfskins. Tallow of good mixed quality in casks advanced slightly.
-Tho New Zealand Farmers'. Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a Arm market for practically all offerings. Competition for wool .was animated, and a;good deal of bag wool woe sold at very full rates. The market for sheepskins was. if anything, in favour of tho sellers, with a'particularly good demand for lambs! skins aad super crossbred. Thero was a-somowhat sharp rise in hides, especially in respect to medium and good-conditfoncd calfskins, whioli were disposed of at rates considerably higher than,have so far been seen this season. The enhanced values established for tallow a fortnight ago were auite maintained, and all parcels offering were disposed of.' The following are the latest guotations for Colonial Government Securities in comparison with those ruling last week:
MONEY MARKET. 'I'ho Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, rtxlticed from 5 to 4J per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 1 per cent., and on January 2B 3 jier cent. On July 30 llio rate, was raised to 4 por cent., and on July 31 it wns raised to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rate was: reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., at which rate it now stands. OPEN MARKET RATES. 'I'ho open market discount rato for three
months' bills is sft per cent., as compared with 4 9-16 per cent, last wceli and per cent. last year. Short loans are quoted at per cent., as Against 4 per cent, last week, and 12 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AtfD OTHER PRODUCE, Wheat is dull find easier. Cargoes nominally 6d. to Is. dccline. Flour is dull and unchanged. Oats.—None offering. Peas end beans arc qiiiot and* unchanged. Sugar is unchanged. Bradford Tops— Prices are unchanged, hut the market is disturbed pending the Government arrangements regarding the English clip. Crossbreds arc weak, and merinos are scarce and dear. The War Trade Department announces that applications for tho export of wool to Franco can only be considered if recommended by the French Ministry of Commerce. This step is being taken at France's request to stop speculation. METAL MARKETS. Copper.—On 6-pofc, £97 10s. per ton; three months'. .£94 10s.; electrolytic, £135.
