A SPAKE SET AVAILABLE. ; The importance of r. portable wireless apparatus being maintained at each of the four centres of the Dominion for emergency work was urged upon the Postmaster-Gensial on. Thursday by Mr. Jt. J; Dickson, of the Aurora, When a private apparatus ha<l had to be secured in Dinwdin ill order .to iro to the assistance of the vessel. If this proposal wero iriipossible; at least one such apparatus should he available in each .island^. In reply, Sir Joseph Ward said thnt ho had already authorised the provision of one snare set, and h(v was considering whether a second .set should'be secured., It was not a very expensive matter, as tho'machines cost only ,£IOO or .8200 each;' As a general principle, however, it was not the business of tho Government, except in extraordinary cases—such as that of the Aurora—to fully equip itinerant vessels sent on otrarids of mercy, Wireless equipment, was now so cheap that the owners of vessels should provide their own equip, inert to get into touch with the NewZealand stations.
