Take the case of a company whose capital in 1918 was ,£lU,Ooi), on which a profit of JiloOO. is made. Supposa this capital increased during 1015 to copowith tiio normal growth of the "business to <££0,000, and that the profit becomes ut'2(K)o. lii the one case a return of 15 per cent, 'is shown, aud in the second 10 per cent., and. yet according to this taxation Hill-the extra J.'500 profit is to pay 45 per cant., although tho business nas really, shown a. decline due to the war, in ratio ol 'profit to capital.—l ain, etc., cHAREauLiItH. .
