ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Special Reporter.) Palmerston N., June-22. The council of the New Zealand Hoi-stein-Friesian Cattle Breeders' Association reported to tho annual meeting- that the past year had been a very successful, one toi the/association.. During the.year sixty-two new members joined, making the total membership 330, and financially, also, substantial progress - had been .made. Seventy-five cows lind heifers had 4 been tested 1 by the semi-official-scheme, and in all classes the standard was passed very substantially. Numerous inquiries had beau received from Australia for stud stock, and a number of sales had eventuated, and it was 'anticipated that an extensive trade with the Commonwealth would be inaugurated. ' Tho balance-sheet showed receipts to havo been .£782 19s. Bd. and expenditure .£531 ,15s. Id. The assets were -£1819 4s. Gd, and the liabilities nil. The report an'l balance-sheet were adopted. Leonard moved that the attention of the Government„be directed to the''unfair result of the,-present system . ofcommandeering' cheese 'at a fixed price, which amounted to a special tax on suppliers of this product,- and that they ;(tlie Government) bG recommended to. place cheese on the same .footing as other, products supplied to the Home Government, thereby allowing it to secure the ruling market prices. Ho contended' that farmers had always paid' taxes to a greater extent than tiie townspeople. The ,Government,' ho said, had taken one-third of the output at 9jil.. and they had not received the fair market price, which averaged lid.
