PETONE COURT

Mr. D. G. £. Cooper, S.M., presided at a sitting of the ketone Court, held yesterday. For a breach of a prohibition order, Clias. Cudby was convicted and discharged, and a hrst-offender, for drunkenness, was similarly dealt with. A youth, for whom Mr. P. \Y. Jacksou appeared pleaded guilty to a. charge of the theft of a tiu of benzine. Air. Jackson stated that accused hud no intention of stealing. He had sold the benzine oil behalf of his employers, and had failed to account for the money. .Accused was,fined 205., and ordered to refund the value of the benzine, Us. J. M'Vicar and Benjamin Joues were each iinod 55., with 7s. costs, for allowing stock to wander.. I'or failing to attend drill, youths wave fined as follow:'—J. A. Webster, "os., with 7s. costs; A. A. Symes and F. K Symes, each 55., and 7s. costs; H. Kiddell, ss. only; and for obstructing parade, It. Stunt was fined 'ss. and G. D. Stokes s<s., with 7s. costs. I'or riding a bicycle 'On the footpath Alfred Harbottle was fined ss. A youth, 12- years of age, was ordered to receive six strokes of the birch for theft, and another, eleven years of age, was cautioned and discharged. Henry John Wynyard, who was represented by Mr. P. \V. Jackson, was lined 55., with 7s. costs, for • being on licensed premises during the time when such premises were required- to be closed. A penalty of 20s. was imposed ou E. Battersby, who was proceeded against by the Inspector of Awards for employing a non-unionist in the painting trade. Defendant stated tliat the employee had said that he belonged to the union. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following undefended civil eases:— .T. W. Smith (agent for Q. Gibbs) v. Sam Howe, „43, with ss. costs; Mrs. G. Stunt v. H. and C. Ellicott, .£6 Bs., costs 135.; B. It. Kelly v. T. Corbett, *£15 155., j costs 16s.
