A DANGEROUS PRACTICE.
Sir,—ls there no by-law in Wellington prohibiting motor-cyclists from the dangerous practice of carrying a passenger on thorear seat? It I ,is quite a common sight in and around Wellington to see motor-cyclists with a companion mounted behind, scorching along regardless of all and sundry. And on Saturday afternoon last, one precious pair skidded, in avoiding a wagon, lost control of their machine, and' came to grief. Numerous accidents, aud very orton fatalities, are recorded from this foolish habit of double-banking. In Christclmrch there is a stringent by-law prohibiting this abuse of motorcycling, as the steering becomes affected when a passenger is seated on the back wheel. . Wellington's busy streets are far too narrow and dangerous enough at all times, and pedestrians and traffic alike are entitled to be protected from motorcyclists who indulge in the above dangerous habit. Perhaps Councillor Puller will move in this matter.—l am, etc., '• ■ : ' ' W.M. ■ June 1!), 1916.
