LOCAL INDUSTRY
■ f PARLIAMENTARY ' COMMITTEE TO MAKE INQUIRIES. On Friday afternoon the House, set- upi on the motion of the Prime Minister, a committee "to inquire into all matters tending to benefit and encourage {lie industries of the Dominion." This committee is boing set up in accordance with a promise made by Mr. Massey to a deputation representative of industries in the Dominion which waited on liim during the recess, that lie would give them an opportunity of expressing their views before a special committee of the House. These gentlemen will have this opportunity as soon as the fomniittea can make arrangements, and the eonimitteo will hold its first '.ateting very shortly. Their principal representations have to do with the tariff, and as it is not intended that the tariff, shall be reviewed this session, nothing will follow immediately upon the committee's consideration of the matter.. The evidence will, however, be on record for future reference.
