FEDERATION OF LABOUR
ANNUAL CONFERENCE NEXT MONTH.
The annual conference of the United. Federation of Labour will open in Wellington on July 4. Among the remits already forwarded for' discussion are the following:— From Canterbury Printers, Machinists and.. Bookbinders' Union, suggesting that Conference try to establish a .rule in all New Zealand unions that any unionist may become a' member of any genuine union upon presenting his clearance card, thus obviating the necessity of paying entranco fees into more than one union.
.From Christ-church Furniture Trade Union, recomentling that conference considers the advisability of starting a co-operative system of trading, for tho benefit of the workers of the Dominion.
From Auckland General Labourers Union, reoommending (1) That the Conference sit' in tho different centres in turn, beginning in 1917; (2) That con-> ference protest against the Order-in-Coun-cil suspending Under-rate Workers' Clause in the Awards of the Arbitration Court; (3) That the Minister of Defence be appealed to establish local camps in the different centres; (4) That conference censure the Government for its inactivity in relation to the high cost of living; (S) That the Government he requested to nationalise 'the medical profession.
From Otago Labour Council, suggesting new machinery for bringing about the political representation of Labour.
