THE OLD ADAGE MAKES THE WILLING HORSE PULL ALL THE LOAD.

Sir,—With your permission I would like to give Mr. Vavasour a huge put on t'ue back for the mannef ho lias shown up the present very unjust anil unfair method of taxation. Pray, Sir, why i 6 it that all and sundry do love to rido the farmer to death ? One would expect something better from our present Prime Minister (seeing that he is une of us); but judging from his uiode. of taxation his fanning must be at present only ft side-issue, it Mr, Vavasour's letter and figures do .not now wake the farmers up and make them go for him like a pack of bulldogs, and Insist on a fair taxation for citizen ana farmer alike, then goodness only knows what the farmers are thinking about, i'or the benefit of all farmers who did not see Mr. Vavasour's letter, just look up Thk Dominion of the 13th iust. One Mould have thought that" when the Goy•crnihcnt had commandeered our meat and cheese (which means millions out of the farmers' pockets throughout the Dominion) that they would then have at least given the fanner equal right of taxation. But no, Sir! -Bide the farmer to death, ho is only tlic~baekbone of the country, and ho is such u good tdave I hat he will never jib. Now, why does our Government- go on allowing the shipping companies to add insult ts> injury by putting up enormous high tariffs, and making millions upon millions out. of the farmers? Commandeer their ships, and then we will at least be fiquute with one section of the community. Then commandeer the sugar, and let us have a square deal from that quarter, for the public have already Buffered and tolerated a sugar trust'too long. It looks to me, Sir, like this: If ever onr Government bad a backbone then-1 am afraid it has, gone now. Probably it has meningitis or infantile paralysis. Trusting that some farmers will get' a movo on and shake things up,—l am, 6tC " F. ,T. RYDER, (per K.R.). Pahilto, Otaki Railway, Juno lj, 1016.
