HEROES OF ANZAC

y . THEIR GBEA'C DAY IN LONDON. A Wellington "Anzac," who went away with the Main Body, and was on the Gallipoli Peninsula until a few weeks before the evacuation, writes from, an English hospital as follows" "Anzac Day was a glorious success as. far as wo colonials were concerned. Our march through London proved a most memorable affair, and on the thousands who Watched we created a most favourable and lasting impression. ( We w;ere cheered along the whole route, the police experiencing great difficulty /in keeping hack the crowd, which would every now and again oreak through to embrace us "heroes" (as they called us). .. - "Many of the chaps were kissed, others clasped by the hand; many of the women were overcome by their-emotions, as they cried 'God bless you !* Truly, tho whole populace was wild with sincere enthusiasm over us, and, naturally enough, we felt proud of the honour. : Here and there along the line bodies of people would be singing 'For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,' others shouted 'Kia Oral' and now and then from the midst of the mass there would rise the Australian bush cry 'Coo-eo!' It was, indeed, a march of inarches, and I was glad that I was able to take part ,in it. All along the route we had .flowers thrown on our heads, packets of cigarettes were flying round, and also boxes of silk and other handker'chiefs. The people of England showed in no small way their keen anpreciatinn of our work in this war. „.TVhat we have done has cost us dearly," and England took the opportunity, on the day of the anniversary* of our lancKng, to applaud us for our effort."
