PUBLIC WORKS VOTES

AN IMPORTANT-STATEMENT. In replying to a -King CountTy deputation, introduced by Messrs. J. A. Young and W. T. Jennings, last evening, the Minister of Public Works (Hon. W. Fraser) made it clear that no new road votes will be placed on this year's -Estimates. He said that he had no extra money, and that the only mono? that would be voted this year would be the unspent balances of the votes on last year's estimates. He added that if this were found to press heavily upon the backblocks, bodies they could recommend any adjustments or transfers. He said that during the coming spring ho would visit tho country districts and discuss matters concerning the votc3 with any local bodies desirous of making any representations on the subject of the votes. ■ •
