Mr. G. N. Pharazyn and family I<d& by the last steamer for • Vancouver, ee. route to,Loudon. Lance-Corporal Guy Dabbs, camp milii tary police, died at Izard's Hospital, Lower Hutt, at 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the cause of death being pneumonia following on measles. Deceased ■ was L' 2 years of age. His next-of-kin is his mother Mrs. Stewart, of Tyrone, Marton. The body will be interred at Karon Cemetery to-day, being accorded full military honours. A private cable message has been yeceived in Wellington announcing the death in London on Wednesday of Mr. Edward C. E. Mills, eldest son of the E. W. Mills, formerly of the hardware firm of E. W. Mills and Co. Jhe late Mr. Mills was a 'liative of Wellington, sixty years of age, but had been living in tho Old Country for a number / e , aTS tht* firm's London director and buyer. For some months past lie had been ailing, and liad been spending most of his time at a health resort in. Devonshire, only returning to London three weeks ago. For many years before lie left New Zealand he took a. keen interest in yachting matters. He was one of the founders of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, and had held tho posi-' tion of Commodore of that organisation. At the time of his death, Mr. Mills wn/j the largest shareholder in Messrs. E, W. Mills and Co. As a mark of respect, the flags on the shipping and over a number of local warehotfffis were at halfmast yesterday. The late Mr. Mills was a widower. His mother died- a few years ago. Mr. J. P. Mills, of Wellington, is his only brother now living, and Mrs. W. J. Grey (Wellington), lbs. W. .J. Napier (Auckland), Mrs. Andrew Anderson (Christchurch), and Mrs. G. C. Russell (London), and Mrs. Holmwood (London) are his sisters. Word has been received in Wellington that Lance-Corporal W. G. Morpeth, who was reported wounded recently, has lost yhis right eye, and is in hospital in London. Lance-Corporal Morpeth is very well known, especially in swimming and hockey circles, in Wellington, and was a member of tho Samoan Expeditionary Force. Yesterday evening Sergt.-Major Halliwell, lato of tho firm of Messrs. MTSldow,ney Bros., who will be leaving with the 15th Reinforcements, was presented with a wristlet watch and signet ring by tho firm and employoes, who wished ttie recipient the best of good luck and safo return. Tho death is announced of Mr. John Hamilton, of Matheson Street, AYanga--3)111, at tho ago of 83. ' The late Mr. Matheson was very highly respected by a wide circle of friend*. Ho had resided in Wanganui for many year.?, but previously was a resident of Tiinaru. A family of three daughters are left to mourn their loss. Cable advico has been received that Sergt. J. M. Hamilton was killed in action on Juno 5. Sergt. Hamilton's death, on tho field of battle will be read with deep sympathy by_ a largo circle of friends. The deceased,'who was a lead- : ing builder and contractor in Wanganui, disposed of lis business in order, to enlist. He was very well known and highly respected. In addition to being a prominent member of the Wanganui Builders' Association, he was for-somo years a director of the People's Building Society. He was also well known in the rowing world, having been a prominent and aetivo member of the TJ.C.C. A sad coincidence connected with Sorgt. Hamilton's death is that his aged father passed away on Sunday morning. The deceased leaves a widow and an infant daughter a few days old.' ' Messrs. P. A. Hardy and J. W. Burgess • have been appointed Government surveyors of ships under the Shipping .'itul Seamen's Act. Mr. H. E. G. Ralfe is, by Gazette notice, appointed clerk to the Magistrate's Court at Auckland. In the same Gazetto appears the notification of the appointment of Mr. G. S. Clark as DeputyRegistrar of the Supremo Court at, Napier. ' ' Captain John Gage Williams, of tho 19th Royal Hussars (Queon Alexandra's Own), is gazetted an aide-de-camp to His. Excellency, the Governor... " Corpl. H. 0. P. Marsden, who has teen appointed company sergeant-major of tho 17th Infantry Reinforcements, is the second son of Mr. T. W. P. Marsden, of Eastbourne, and a former member of the EaStbourno Borough Council. At the time of his enlistment he was secretary t.> the Westport-Stockton Coal Mining 7 Company, Christchurch. When leaving Christchurch for Trentham, Sergt.-Major Marsden was presented with a gold wristlet watch by the Coal Merchants' Association of Christchurch, and a pair of binoculars by the directors of tho West-port-Stockton Coal Company. Sergt.Major Marsden was a member of the old . Wellington Highland Rifles, and occupied the position of sergeant in that regiment, and also held the company's championship bolt for rifle shooting. Mr. A. L. Blythe, of tho Napier firm of Blythe and Co., who is a resident of Sydney, and has' been a a visit to Napier in connection with the enlargement o'f the firm's premises there, left for Sydney by the Riverina last evening. .The members of the Board of Trade, Messrs. W. G. M'Donald, P. Hally, and J. R. Hart, with- the secretary, Mr. J. W. Collins, have returned to Wellington. The board has investigated various questions relating to the price of foodstuffs at Auckland, Thames, Waikato, Gisborne, and Napier. Dr. Stapley, of Cambridge, has received a telegram from the Director-General of Medical Services, requesting him to report at Featherston Camp as soon as possible. ' Mr. T. P. Warren, an inspector of schools in the Auckland Province, has received notice of his transfer to the Napier-district. He will leave to-day to take up his new duties. - During the absence of City Councillor A. Veitcli from Wellington, Councillor G. Frost has beeii added to the Health Committee of the City Council, and Councillor R. A. Wright to the Outlying Districts ■ Committee. Mr. P. W. Christian, M.A., lecently head teacher at the Ocean Bay School, Marlborough; has joined the staff of the New Plymouth High School as Classical Master.
