ActonAdams, who hns half-a-dozen horses in the Porirua stables, is' at present in Wellington on his -way home from the Auckland Meeting. On® of his jumpers, Kuhunguru, has gone wrong, and is being spelled, and Precious Metal is to be qualified for hunters' races. Limpet, whp has shaped very disappointingly this season, will probably be sold.
J. O'Shea rotte one winner at Ellerslie and C. Emerson did likewise at Otaki, so ; tho margin between tho two horsemen remains - tho same." As Emerson leaves for Sydney next week, he will not have an opportunity of -improving on his figures, and J. U'Shea, with 73 wins, can bo declared the leading jockey for the present season. Tho Porirua horses Naupata and Scrutineer, who raced unsuccessfully at the Auckland Meeting, returned homo yesterday. ..The former is very sore, and ia unlikely to be seen out again until the Wellington Meeting comes on. A/recent' arrival at 'Trentham is the Merrio England gelding' Royal Sleeves. He has gone into C. Pntchnrd's'stables,. and is to be schooled for hurdle racing. Mr. R. W. After all, Chortle , was ontered for tho Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps, but us he has been running out in the paddock since.the"Hastings Autumn Meeting it does not look very likely' that . his trainoi- has serious', designs' on the trip to Raudwick, for if that wero so the horse would be required to be kept going during the winter; ..Maybe, the sovereign lias been paid to see how tile'weight-adjuster will treat Jiiiii.. Similar tactics, were employed, with .tho .Multifid gelding in last year's C.J.O.'Vis'ational Hurdles,' and as._soon as, tho weights'appea'red. for. that event tho pen. was-put through-'-his name. ■' . Mr. W.. E. Bidwili, who has been in tho City for a lew days, returned home yesterday. He has sold deputation to Mr. James M'Donald, of-tho Mungio Bundee Stud, where' Mountain King is now located, and tho former homo of San Prancisco. Mr. Bidwili once refused 2300 guineas, for the black son of Stepfeldt, but as tho colt won .1:1500 in Sydney this sum and the price-paid for liini has paid the Rototawa sportsman for keeping the horse till now. Owing to Hio Rliortago of stable hands, Mr. Eithvill will probably send a couplo of his horses to Trentham to bo.traiued; The two victories of El "Gnllo placed Mr. W. J. Ralph at the head of the list of winning owners at Ajekland, his chequo amounting to ;EIBOO. ... .■ - 'The' Winter 'Meeting of the Gisbornu Racing Club takes place on Thursday and Saturday next. ' ' " ' According to latest advices, Rorke's Drift, who 'lightened up considerabljr as the''result of his Wiiigatui exertions, is to bo spelled for a couple of months. He will probably make his reappearance- at K-iccarton-next-spring. Stepfeldt, dam of Reputation, is now twenty-four years of age, but site is remarkably healthy, and has a fine filly foal by tho imported Desmond horse Demosthenes. This season Stepfeldt visited the Martagon horse Hallowmas. This week's issue of the "Sporting and Dramatic Review" is worthy of special mention. . The war section is represented with illustrations showing General 'retain, tho defender of Verdun; Austrian Engineers; the-Shall inspecting an aeroplane; J'rencli wounded, in a churchy soldiers' graves in' the Meusa district; the' Allies' treatment of their German prisoners, etc. . That portion devoted to sport contains many fins views of the Auckland and Wanganui Racing Club's Winter Meetings, snapshots on the Ellerslie lawn, Merrimax's ' win at Randwick, patriotic carnival at' Port Chalmers, etc. ■ A lino picture of -El Gallo; winner of tho Great Northern Hurdles and Steeplechase, make an excellent frontispiece—Advt.
