HUTT HOTELS

* LICENSING COMMITTEE. The annual meeting of the Hutt Licensing Committee was held at Lower Hutt yesterday, Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presiding. There were also present: Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan, J. Cudby, J. Cotton, 11. llyder, and M. Welch. The chairman ( stated that the committee was pleased to note that on the. whole the police reports were satisfactory. There were complaints, however, in • respect to the Bellevue Hotel, and against the Central and Victoria Hotels at Petone there were complaints of Sunday trading. Tho chairman added that it was necessary in these times for licensees, to do their best to see that tho law was obeyed. The following licenses were granted:— Empire Hotel, Petone (H. J. Palmer); ■ Central Hotel, Petone (G. Gibbs); a transfer of tho license in this oase was granted from H. Gilmore to G. Gibbs; Victoria Hotel, Petone (A. Beggs), a' transfer was also granted from C. \Yadr ley to A. Beggs; Grand National Hotel, Petone ' (A. A. Richardson); Railway Hotel, Lower Hutt (F. W. Thomas); Central Hotel, Lower Hutt (F. L. Simpson); Family Hotel, Lower Hutt (A. J. Munro); Bellevue Hotel, Lower Hutt (N. S. Camnbell); Taita Hotel (W. Moore); Trentham Hotol (R. Quinn); Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt (Mary E. Young); wholesale license (Andrew Y. Lees). ' xi ie licensees of the Grand National, Bollevue, Taita, and Provincial Hotels agreed to carry out certain alterations required by tho Health Department. In connection with the report on the Bellevuo Hotel, Mr. M'Ewan asked for ail amplification of tho police notico that it was unsatisfactorily conducted. An objection, however, to this course was raised by Mr. J. Tripe, on the ground that,tho license had been granted, and Constablo Cameron's evidence was not given.

Regarding the complaints against the Centra! Hotel, Mr. J. Tripe stated that 0. flililc: had only been in charge of the liaiiKi' lor four months. Sergt. Forstcr replied io tho effect that' his complaints wero of a recent date, and during tlio tenancy of the present licensee.'
