OTAKI MEETING LADY LOUISA WINS BIG HANDICAP. By Telegraph— (Special Correspondent.) Otaki, June 5. Tho weather was again gloriously fine for tho concluding Uay at Otaki, and the attendance was up «> the standard of previous years. Tho going was a considerable improvement on tho first day. Speculation was very spirited, and the inachiuo handled ,i 18,971, as against £111,219 for the same day last year. The total for the two days was J139,457, 'which is an increase of <£'6708 on last year's figures. The Judicial Committee met several times .during tho day, but G. Clarke, who was fined M for careless riding, was the only offender punished. In a big field of nineteen the public correctly summed up the situation iu the Telegraph Hack Handicap by electing Samisen favourite. The Birkenhead filly drew No. 1 at tho barrier, and\ jumping out smartly led all tho way. Merry Andrew was early up with her, but in the finish the Biccarton filly won by a short neck. Merrie Poto was a halflength away, and then came Golden Grafton. Limpet jumped out well, but failed to go the pace set by Samisen. Hymen and Starengo lashed "out at the post, and. delayed the start for a time. The seven acceptors went to the post for tho Steeplechase. Immensity was supported as if the race was all over, but the weight stopped her, and Kirkby, running more ganerously to-day, defeated the favourite by a couple of lengths. Darby Paul was a poor- third, and Parewanui and Cron Park finished a long way back. Nita Tan off two fences from hornet and Wirokino fell. The winner was formerly owned by P. P. Neagle, who ■ now trains Immensity. The fullbrother to Formby- can claim the distinction of 'being the cheapest steeplechaser to ever win a race, as Neagle once sold him for eighteenpence. Immensity was lame on pulling up, and will have to forego her Gisborne engagements. A protest was. entered against tho winner for being trained by an unlicensed trainer. The matter was held over. The Huia Handicap was considered very open, and the investments covered a wide range. There was some delay at the barrier, but tho start was a good one, tho field moving off well. Bradamante, George, and Hushabye were prominent clear of Kooya and Orleans as they raced down tho back, but at tho half-mile Maid o' Gowrio and Lady Louisa dashed to the front. Entering the straight the pair were clear of George and Kooya. Maid o' Gowrie tired a" furlong from home, and Kooya challenged Lady Louisa, but tho latter won by a length. Maid o' Gowrio was third, and then came Orleans, Seddul Bahr, and llewi Poto. The last-named was a good favourite, but never flattered his backers. The seven starters in tho Stewards' Hack Handicap wero evenly backed. At the start Manu, Cherry Blossom, and Lady Black, on' tho outside, Tan to the front, and thoy remained there to the finish, tho last-named winning by a neck after a great struggle. - Manu was a head away, and then cam© Pall Mall, who was finishing fast. A. Reed, rider of Ballyhar, .got struck in the oyo with a clod of earth, and could not do his mount justice. A favourite in Depredation won' the Railway Handicap, after being last to' leave the mark. He seemed to be sore, and could not go in the first part, but at tho finish he put in great work, and won by a length from Mt. Victoria, who got all the best of ; the start. Over the first part Daytime and Moutoa Queen were in behind Mt. Victoria, but tho pair in the straight. Jean Laddo ran a good raco to tho turn, but then compounded. Bradamante, Ohiwai, Veto, and' Step finished next to tho placed horses. - Another favonrito in Kukri prevailed in tho Ohau Welter Handicap, but it was only by a very narrow margin, and aftei a great struggle with Fore, while Amity was a poor third and Sir Agnes fourth. Tho winne,r tomes from a good family on tho dam's side, and may later on be a success over fences. Tho Scurry was won by Revocation, who showed a great improvement on the first day's form. Rio was favourite, with Birkenetta second choice, and the pair were in front to tho turn, where Revocation took charge and won nicely. Tho other pair were in the places.
