A soldier who served thirteen months, on the Ypres front, Private James Reith, returned to Nelson last week. When the war broke out he enlisted with the NewZealand Expeditionary Force, but, beinga British Reservist, he was called up, and proceeded'to England, whero he joined bis regiment. Except for being slightly "gassed" in tho attack on Hill 60, Private Reith came through thirteen months fighting unscathed, and, having served his full term in tho Army, was ■ discharged. Mr. Edgar Hastings Cambridge, formerly of Oht'istchurch, has received a commission in the Royal Aviation Corps, Enffland. Lieutenant Cambridge is the youngest sou of the lato Mr. A. B. Cambridge, artist, and Mrs. Cambridge, now of Dillworth Terrace, Auckland, lie joined the 2nd Company Vield Engineers, A.1.1iJ?., and left for Egypt in October, iou. He' was with the landing party at Gallipoli, and was in the trenches for several months, until he was wounded by »■ bomb. He was sent to England and on recovering sufficiently for service again, was given his commission.
