VERDUN BATTLE RAGES DAY AND NIGHT
GERMANS THROWING IN FRESH DIVISIONS BULGAR ACTIVITIES IN MACEDONIA MOUNTED COLONIALS IN ACTION
War news is scanty to-day, which is probably due to the pressure on the wires from the story of Shackleton's polar adventures. The Germans are attacking Verdun with redoubled fury, and are stated to have brought strong forces of fresh troops and vast supplies of big gun ammunition. The communiques, however, do not indicate that the situation has materi? ally changed, while the German official communique admits the capture of four hundred yards of trenches by tho French. Mounted colonial troops have been in action east of the Suez Canal, successfully engaging a force! of the. enemy at Katiyeh, oa th e El Arish caravan route. There has been a stormy debate in the Reichs tag on the peace issue, and some strong oritieism of the military cens orsliip. Bulgai atrocities are reported from Greek Macedonia.
