A. FINANCIAL SUCCESS,

.. A. meeting of. tho- Shakespeard Tercentenary Committee was held, in" the Town Hall last night,' Mr.. J.. M. Clark in the ohpir.

, The balance-sheet was read by the lion, secretary (Mr. R. It.. Lyon), and showed receipts to be .£363 Os. 2d., including 2s. 6(1. from sale of tickets, and exponditure ,£lll 15s. 7d., leaving a credit balance of .£248 £s-. 7d„ which will be . over to the Red Crosg Fund. The chairman referred to tie, great successsthat had attended the committee's : efforts.. Thanks were due to Mr. Bart.lett, the photographer, for taking and donating photographs, to the City Council for the use of the Town/ Hall, and ttf the Press for appreciative notices of the performances and discount on. advertisements. The committee had assets worth some .£lO, which might be useful on some future occasion.

Mr. J. Culford Bell moved the adoption of the balance-sheet, and' said the oommitteo oould be congratulated • not only oil the financial sucoess of its undertaking, but- on its' artistic success. The work of Mrs. Hannah deserved special mention. .

; The chairman.;said that Mr. Bell deserved credit for' initiating the performance and for the part he had taken in it. It was stated that the costumes worn at the performances were provided by those taking part, thus saving considerable outlay. Thanks were accorded Mr. Robert Parker and the members of his orchestra, and' Mr. Pancourt and the 0.1.C.

\ltwas resolvedithat the oommitteo form themselves into a Shakespeare Commemoration Society, with the object of annually commemorating tlio birth of the dramatist. The balance-sheet was adopted, and tho meeting: closed.
