EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Hoard was held yesterday afternoon, Hon. J. G.W. Aitken presidium. '.There were also present: ipir Walter Buchanan, Messrs, A. W. Tho chairman' explained that the red notion had been-brought. about by the Government paying over certain . moneys due. Government correspondence notified tho authorisation of a grant of <£810 for a residence at Pirinoa and 7s. Gd. for rent at Manuhara. The. grant for the training of teachers had been'. reduced from •J!378 to <£250. Under certain regulations, which, have already been published, tile admission of returned soldiers -to the Training \Collego was agreed to. The Government also notified: its agreement to tho granting,: on, certain conditions, of' leave of absence to Training' College students,, pupil teachers, and probationers who desire to enlist. Tly> Education Department advised that the medical inspection of Training College students could not be undertaken at present. . . The chairman stated that at the present, time the schools under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Education Board liad no medical inspectors of . any kind. On the motion of Mr. C. M. Luke, it was resolved to again draw the attention of the Department to this matter. Correspondence was received in relation to representation at the League of Empire meeting, which will' be held in London during July. It was resolved to leave the matter in" the hands of. the executive to deal with, and a suggestion was made that Colonel Charters and Major Cowles, two teachers who are at present in France, should be • appointed with power to act. Failing this, members of Parliament who will be visiting England at tho time will be asked to act as. delegates from tho 'board. ' The thanks, of.tlie board was extended to the Women's Teachers' Association for the presentation of fltfgs to, cover the roll of honour board.

.In respect to -theapplication ST. Mr. S. J. Clark, of Horoekn, for an aided' school, it was resolved that if further particulars are satisfactory the board will provide it.
