Poulson, sheepfamer, Wangaiiui, over charges for storago of motor-car and the loss of a motorcar wheel tube was ventilated -in- tho Court. Mr. A. M. Salek appeared on l.ehalf of Mrs. Nightingale,'who claimed £\ 105. ; ,Cd., and.Mr. Poulson (Mr. Evans) claimed 14s. . Mr. Riddell said he would have to non-suit Mr. Poulson on his claim, and gave judgment for Mrs. Nightingale for £1 lis., and 14s. costs. POLICE CASES. Mr. D. G. A. Copper, S.M., heard tho police cases at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. On the application of Mr. E. P. Bunny 'the Court agreed to vary tho seutenco of one month's imprisonment for tteaU in" a bicycle, imposed two days' ago upon John Norman Spicer, who was convicted i and ordered to report himself to the police every week 'for six months. Jeremiah O'Eeilly, who had a prevb-is conviction recorded against him was fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness. Five first offenders v oie dealt with in the. usual lenient mann'-r. A young woman named Minnie Fenmoro, 1? years of age, pleaded guilty to the theft of a diamond ring valued at J!2O at Taihupe, the property of Mrs. Boyd. Chief Detectivo Bo'ddam said this was the young woman's first lapse, and thought ihat sho might be given a chanca to redeem- herself'. The accused was con. victed and discharged, on condition that she remains in tho Salvation Army Home for a period of six months, and an orfe" ■was made for'the return of tho ring. .
Charged with playing two-up nn 'Waterloo Quay, John Armstrong pleaded i.ot guilty. After hearing evidence, the Accused was convicted and fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. '.Ha ; as given M days in which to pay. Edgar John Blackburn Claugh charged with wearing tho uniform of Bis Majesty's Forces without having author itv to do'so. The charge was laid under Section (iO of the Defence Act. Chief Detective Boddam stated that the accused arrival frcyn Australia ia little while ago, and had been posing as "Major Claugh,", a Staff officer. It was' further stated that when 111 Australia l\e posed as an officer of the New Zealand Artillery. Tho accused said he held the rank,of major, and had enlisted in. Ncwy Zealand a year ago. He was convicted.and fined iOs., in default seven days' imprisonment. As lieSvas unemployed,-William Henry Partridge had hi 9 arrears of .£4O .on a maintenance order- remitted, and ■■ »as warned that if lie did not in future fulfil his obligations he w'ould.be severely dealt. wi"l- - Slieahan, a member of the Expeditionary Force, .was charged that without provocation lie. blocked down a onelcgged newsvendor named'.Otto Brunuih.' Sheahan stated that lie had overstayed bis leave, and had been drinking.
