Sidey, M.P., regarding the cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis at the Featherston Camp, the Minister of Defence stated that every possible precaution was being taken, and that it was practically impossible for an epidemic of meningitis, or any other epidemic, to occur in the camp. All except five of the men who had been in contact with tlw meningitis cases had been proved to bo immune. These five m?n were being carefully watched. So far as ho knew, there were now only two cases of meningitis. In one case j'lß man was out of danger, but the' otner was fairly bad. It was erroneous to suppose that meningitis oould be' contracted from the surrounding buildings. It could be communicated only from man •to man. Every ■ precaution was being taken .by- careful attention to the men's throats, etc., and Surgeon-General' Henderson was personally giving liis attention to the matter. It was possible that a few cases of meningitis would occur after measles, but he did not think there was any possible fear of an epidemic arising. There ivas an ample sup r ply of tlfe fiex'nor serum available.
