PURCHASE OF A MOTOB-CAE,

"' Peculiar in- \ ' rerest. attaches _to the .ease as the. .trans*-' ■, fiction was plainly recorded in the company*s books. The sum involved was - Used by Martell. for the .purchase of a motor-car. Martell filled in the cornpany's signed blank cheque and debited the amount to- his own. salary account. 'At a later date, without,- it is alleged,' ?ny express authority'from , the directors, ho caused to be opened in the company's ■books a motor-car account, to which,'ho transferred the debit, at the same time crediting liis salary account with the amount. The hearing of . evidence has occupied- the Magistrate's Coitrt for seven days. Further charges; against Martell are of stealing,' on or about May 2i, 1915, the sum of JS100; on June 28.. 1915, ■£15; and between January ID, 1915, and May 25, 1915, ,£24 6s, id., these, moneys being the property 'of the company.
