A HINT FOR OUR TROOPS
EXPERIENCES OF A NINTH KEINFOItCEMENT MAN.
One of the Ninth Contingent, writing home, says:—"lf you know anyone leaving ltfth the forces,'tell them to take sonio ' Uncle Sam' Tar Soap—it is a much better Bait-water soap than the so-called salt-water soap—or Lava soap is good. A sponge is very useful, and a private pannikin; also light underclothing and two' pairs light khaki short pauts to tho knee and two light khaki shirts. The stuff supplied by the Government is useless for wear in the Tropics—thick woollen stuff, just a bree.ling-place for vermin. The best plan is to wear as little as possible, and to wash it as often as possible.. A chap who was through tho last Sudan campaign says silk .underwear w tho, thing for keeping clear of vermin." Another who has been months there says: "But New Zealand people have not the faintest idea of what is needed here; they tell you so many things in Now Zealand, aiicl when you get here you find things altogether dilfpront. Most of tho clothing issued, for instance, is quite unbearable."
