' NEWSPAPER COMMENTS * HERR HARDEN'S ARTICLE By Tek'irraiili-Prcas Association— OopyrI::! (R-ee. May 26,10.10 p.m.) ' . , New York, Mqy 26. There is much comment in German papers regarding the appointment of Herr von Botoks as food dictator. The "Lokal Anzeiger" says Germany is likely to approach the condition of a vegetarian Eden in tho coming months. Hcit Harden, in an article in "Die Zukunft," blames the political regimo for the privations of the people, and suys that because of the exorbitant prices of meat, milk, butter, and vegetables they are frequently beyond the means of tho masses, and. tho dearth of fodder compelled tho peasantry to sacrifice their young cattle and pigs. The bulk o.f the article consists of a' translation of Do Concourt's article on tho siege of Paris, lierr Hardcn's object being to remind his countrymen what a burden of suffering and sorrow can bo borne by a people determined to fight for freedom and the right of self-government and honour. ■ The "Vonvaerts" joins issue with the (Conservative organs, which say that the shortage of supplies is merely temporary, and by scrimping . tho people will be enabled to tide over till the next harvest, Tho paper states there is suffering from absolute want of certain supplies, through bad organisation and neglect and proper measures should •be taken to increase supplies.
