...Three'; out. of the. four games in tho Alcockv billiard diner tournament played ■last night proved to be very keenly contested. .--In .'the fourth: game, as sometimes liappens, the one player was at the very top.of .his form and the other at his worst,.-with the result that the gamo was won by a w.ide: margin of points. Tucker, plio .-is very severely handicapped, and who -has to score nearly two to any opponent's one, .again secured a favourable' decision. ■ This player seems doomed not to'make a'.hundred break. . Last night he got within ten of the century when he. broko down over, an easy loser in his effort -to secure position.- Kell, who it is expected .will prove nn. obstacle before the finish, was'exceptionally fortunate at times, in his game with' Laws. Still, notwithstanding, ..the play was good. La.ws had the balls left tight on him time and again, bub whon an'opening offered. He* was not slow to take advantage. ..With -a little more .luck on his side the latter ■player might easily have reversed the decision. The results were as follow:—Tucker beat Stevens; Ivell beat Laws; Pulton beat Reade; and 'Browii beat Stills. The best breaks were as .follow:—Tucker, 90,- 50, 41,- 39, 32, 22, 22; Ke11,'59, 47, 23, 22, 2i; Laws.'2S, 27; Brown, 23, 22; Stevens,. 23, 23 ; v Mill3, 22. On Monday next the semi-finals will be played. In-A.section, Tucker (owes 250) plaVs De Lafcour (rec. 40), and Kell (owes 50)-plays.Eraser (owes 75). In B section,Porteous (rec. 50) plays Brown (owes 10), and Pulton • (rec. '75) plays Bradley (rec. 30). The finals, in. both sections will be witnessed) on. Tuesday.
