WAR PROFITS
A LABOUR INCIDENT. An interesting incident occurred at the farewell -tendered to Sergt. E. J. Carey last evening. Mr. W. H. Hampton remarked that ho had seen in the Press that coal had risen half-a-crown because the miners "had got a ten per cent, wur Now, ■ those workers were making war profits as surely as the people who had put up the price of coal. There were signs of dissen't, but Mr. Hampton went on. "I ask you," he said, "can these workers go to the Government with clean hand? regarding the cost of living if they are tarred with the same brush ?" (Hear, hear.) Mr. J. Rigg: Ton are making a debatable speech to which no one can reply. Mr. Hampton apologised for having struck a note of discord, but said that as a sincere Labour man he could not miss the chauce of pointing to the matter he had mentioned. Ho merely issued a warning. ' .
