EARLY CLOSING OF HOTEL BARS
A HASTINGS DEPUTATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, May 24. deputation waited upon the It'on. R., M'Nab this afternoon urging that legislation be introduced for closing hotel bars at 6 p.m. for the period of the war, and for six months thereafter. The views of the deputation were stated by several business men who emphasised that it was not a deputation of abstainers or Prohibitionists; Petitions were tabled containing the signatures of over 2000 adult_ residents within the borough. Mr. M'Nab. in replying, stated that as a member of the Cabinet he could not speak as an individual, but only with the united voice of the Cabinet. He stated that just before he left Wellington, Cabinet came to a decision to introduce anti".shouting" legislation. He was not free to state whether Cabinet had yet. reached, a decision on the early closing Question. Information had * been gathered from other oountries and the representation of the deputation would be clearly, placed before his colleagues. He could <inly assure them that licensing legislation would be introduced this session.
