At the Million Club's luncheon, Mr. Suttor, Commercial Commissioner in the East, emphasised the growing importance of Japan, and urged the establishment of a Chair to dominate . ths» commercial policy in the East so long as the spirit of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance was kept lip. There was no doubt that Japancame to the rescue when Russia was absolutely defeated. Russia's artillery was practically destroyed, when Japan, in response to the appoals of Russia and England, supplied her with' guns. ' Referring to trade, Mr. Suttor warned '' Australia of the possibility of losing Japanese trade, as the result of the publication of hostile criticisms and pinpricks from time to time.
