A request has been made by Dr. A. K. Newiean that the Government'issue' armlets tsi> properly discharged soldiers from Great: Britain, Canada, and Australia so as to ;free them from the unpleasantness of be.mg classed' as war shirkers; and whethiar they will issue armlets to munition •■niorkers.
The -Hon. J. Allen (Minister of Defence) pas replied: Badges'will be issued in all oases where the responsible Defence o.flicer is quite satisfied that the applicant is an honourably discharged soldier frctm the Imperial Forces or from any of tSie Forces of the overseas dominions. fe must l)e distinctly understood that tjiia decision is not to be regarded {is havjng a general application; each case .will be considered on its merits. Armbadges wSU only be issued to munition workers who have first enlisted n::d have been exempted under the authority of the Minister ol' Supplies and Munitions on the ground that they are experts required jn the manufacture ior supply essentials of wtar and canuot be replaced by Jncn who are ineligible for active service. 1- " ■ —
