MASTERTON NOTES
At a public meeting in Masterton on Monday- evening to consider means for providing suitable entertainment fdr visiting soldiers from the Feathers ton' Camp, Mr. ,H. C. Robinson moved: "That until Masterton gets a clean bill of liealtli, it i 9 not desirable that soldiers should come to the town." Mr. Robinson referred at length to the sanitary condition. of the town, which he described as "wretched." The Mayor characterised Mr. Robinson's statements as absurd, and said that a recent report from the Health Officer had staled that the sanitary condition of the borough compared more than favourably with that of other townships. The resolution of Mr. Robihson was unanimously Tejected, and the meeting pledged itself to provide suitable entertainment' for visiting soldiers. . : At an adjourned meeting of householders at Kopuaranga on Monday night the following school ; committee was elected for the ensuing year Messrs. R. D. M'Kenzio (chairman), C. C. Jackson, F. Donovan, D. Todd, and-. A. Dunlop. ' A deputation, consisting of the Mayor and Messrs. C. E. Daniell and J. Caselberg, will wait npoH the Minister of Railways and the Defence Minister on Thursday, and ask for the reinstating of a Saturday troop train to Masterton. The Masterton Picture and Entertainment Company made a net profit last year of about 0C365. A line of breeding ewes offered for sale at the Taratahi on Monday by Messrs. Dalgety and Co. realised 355. Gd. per head. The sheep were bred by Mr. W. Rayner. . >At the annual meeting of the EVatherston branch of the Farmers' Union, Messrs. S. P. Broadbent and P. Cooper were Appointed to the central executive, and Mr. Broadbent was elected delegate to the Provincial Conference.
