SUPREME COURT TWO YOUTHFUL PRISONERS Tito young prisoners appeared at the Supreme Court 'fov sentenco on Saturday morning, Wore Mr. Juolico Hosting. The firstprisoner was Patrick Bren. nan, a lad of seventeon years, wlio had pleaded guilty to three charges of breaking and entering and theft, at Westport. When given an opportunity to speak, prior to the sentence of the Court being passed upon him, Brennan handed up a letter, m which, he asked for a chanoe, 6aying he had to support his mother, who had five children to maintain. He pleaded that the two weeks in prison had taught hiin a lesson. His Honour observed that the probation officer's report was not favourable .to the_ lad, and that it appeared that while in prison he had not exhibited shame for what he had done. He had entered on the threshold of crime, and something must be dono to attempt to reform him. ; He would be committed to prison, to receive not more than two years' reformative treatment. His Honour said that possibly the prisoner would be sent, to a school, and taught to work properly, so that he could help to keep his mother, as ho should do. _ 'John Arnold Batetad (forgery and utter, ing at Palmerston North), who was a member of the.. 11th. Reinforcements, was ordered to como up > for 'sentence ; when called upon. DIVORCE. In the Supreme Court on Saturday, Herbert J. C. Ivinniburglv applied for divorce from his wife, Elsie ■ Kinniburgh, on the ground of desertion. The respondent did' not oppose the application, and after evidence had been given, a decreo nisi this granted,, to bo made absolute in three months. Mr. H. I l '. o'l.cary appeared for the petitioner, and Mr. T. if. Wilford for the respondent.
