FATIGUES IN CAMP

A NECESSARY DETAIL. In-the course of his speech in the Ad« drc-ss-iii-Ec'iily debate in tile House, Mr, L. M. Isitt urged tho Minister of Defence to relieve soldiers in training from the obligation to do fatigue..work, statin? that the time spent on this work couiu be more advantageously devoted to drill. The Defence Minister has received from tho .Commandant (Brigadier-General Robin) the.following report o.n the subject:— "In both Trentham and Feitherston Cainps permanent fatigues recruited from amongst men not fit for service are employed. These men are mainly employed in connection with sanitary duties. It is not considered desirable entirely to eliminate fatigue 3 performed at the front. Officers and men must be accustomed to the carrying out of fatigues while in training. It is considered that fatigues have hcen reduced to a minimum by the construction of the great permanent training cainps."
