INCREASED HOSPITAL LEVIES
• CONFERENCE, TO-DAY. A conference of representatives of the local bodies affected. by the largely in-' creased Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's levies for the . current year, is to be held in the Hutt County Council's chamber at 12.30 p.m. to-day. The subject of the increased levies lias been agitating several of the local bodies concerned-during the past month. In the case of Horowheuua and Johnsonville there were strong protests made, and some suggestion of breaking away from the Wellington. Board altogether. At the meeting of the Miramar Borough Council it was stated that it would nay the borough to placo their public 'hospital patients in private hospitals and pay full fees, rather than face the new levy, and the Karori Borough Council called on the board to furnish a list of the Karori patients, their tormi- of 'treatment, and the amount of mouey collected 'direct from, such patients. A vigorous protest '.gainst the extraordinary increase was also made by the Wellington City Council.
