CRIMINAL CASES CONTINUED

CHINAMAN FOUND GUILTY.
Van Siojj, a Chinese fruiterer, of ftiddifoi;d Street, Wellington, South, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a little trirl on March 18, and was remanded for sentence until Saturday nest. Mr. T-. M. Wilford appeared fur the prisoner.
THEFT FROM THE PERSON. A young man, named Thomas Brown was charged with having-" stolon Jia from tliu person of Thomas Hazelhurst on February 24. A plea of not guilty was entered to tho charge, the accused conducting his own defence. ■Evidence was given .to the effect that Hazelhurst, who was a member of the Samoan Expeditionary Force, lost £o during a ride in a. taxi-cab in company with the accused.
'. A verdict of guilty -was returned, passing of sentence being deferred until Saturday.
MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT, The next case before the Court was one connected with a motor-car accident, which occurred in Manners Street on lebruary 15 last, when Mr. Solomon Myers- was seriously injured. A young man, named John Skivingtou, the driver of tho motor-car, was charged with causing actual bodily harm to Mr. Myers under such circumstances that, had Mr. Myers'died, the accused would have been guilty of manslaughter. iMr. T. M. Wilford appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty. Very lengthy' evidence is being tendered for tho prosecution. Besides the medical testimony, there is the testimony of various persons who were near the scene of the accident when it took place, and they are giving their versions of the details as seen.from the footpath, the street, and from a passing tramcar. The evidence was incomplete when'tho adjournment was taken. ' . AN OLD MAN'S OFFENCE.' By Telegraph-Press Association, i r\, >. Chri'stchurch, May 10. In.the Supreme Court, William Pain, aged 83, was ordered to be detained in the Old Men's Home on a charge of committing an indecent act. A charge against Charles Muncey, of assault cans, ing bodily harm, was dismissed. Charles Brown, described as a drunken waster, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment for robbery. " •William Donaldson was convicted on a charge of forging,and,uttering, and was sentenced to three years' reformative •'. ■
