SADDLERS' DISPUTE Iho Court of Arbitration resumed it 3 » cllington sittings yesterday, the Bench being occupied by His Honour Mr. Justice Stringer and Messrs. W Scott (employers' representative) and J. A. M'Cnllough (emnlovces* representative) In tiio morning the AVellington Saddlers' dispute was heard. Mr. E. Kennedy appeared for tho union, while Mr. W. A. >V. Grenfcll represented the employers. An agreement had been reached on all questions excepting rates of pay. ; The union asked for <£3 12s. a week for journeymen, and for apprentices wages rising from 15s. a week first, year, to .£2 a ween fifth year. The employers offered Is. 3d. per hour for journeymen as against the present rate of Is. 2d. per hour. . After hearing evidence and argument, the Court reserved decision.
THE TIMBER TRADE. _;In the afternoon tho hearing of tho Timber Trade AVorkers' dispute was entered upon. Mr. M. J. iteardon appeared for the union, and Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell for tho employers. Tho matters in dispute' were wages and preference. The wages demanded" were as fsJloy, the figures in parentheses indicating the rates the employers were prepared tg_con-cede:—First-class machinists," 10s (Is 5(1. per hour); others, £3 ss. (is. 3fd. per hour); first sawyers, ,£3 10s. (Is. id per hour); other?, .£3 ss. (Is. 3d. ner hour); boxmakers, £2 l?s. Gd. Tls. 2"d. per hour) • coopers, lis (Is. 3d. per hour); head yardmen, £3 10s. (J3 is.); yardmen, .£3' ss. (Is. 3d. per hour); yard labourers, .£2 17s. Rd. (Is. 2d. per hour); casual labourers. Js. (id. per Hour (Is. 21d. per hour) Tho dispute stands part heard.
