UNDEFENDED CLAIMS

Mr. W. G. Uiddell, S.M., presided at the sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, when judgment by dorault was given for the plaintiffs in the following undefended civil claims :— Morris Fruliauf v. Andrew Compton, £4 105. 10d., costs 135.; David Anderson and Son v. C. Adams, £1 9s. 10d., costs 8s ; M'Ewen, Carter and Co., Ltd., v. John R. AVelsbv, £2 10s., costs lis.; Andrew Wylio v. Evan V.illiams, £35, costs £3 25.; the Mauriceville Lime Co., Ltd. (in liquidation), v. Hector Grav, costs 125.; Hughes Steele v. M. Murray, £3 10s. 6d., costs 10s.; Jackson and Co. v. R. E. Howell, £3 12s. 4d., costs 10s,; Patrick Mackin. r. Charles Brear!ey..£2 25., costs 10s.; Charlotte Treadwell v. Andrew M. Leggo, £14 3s. 3d., costs £1 10s. Gd.

. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. In judgment summons cases, W. Cole was ordered to pay M'Gregor and Jamieson £4 los : 6d. by May. J6, in default four days' imprisonment; and D. Ohapnian was ordered 1 to pay Jack Jacobus the sum of £2 15s. by 'May 16, in default threo days' confinement in gaol.

DEFENDED ACTIONS. In a defended action in which the Dominion Mercantile Agency, Ltd.. daimed from George Samuel Thompson the sum of £50, alleged to be due on calls on shares in the plaintiff company, the Magistrate, after hearing evidence, gave judgment for the amount ■ claimed, together with costs (£5). Mr. H. E.- Anderson appeared for the plaintiff com-

pany.\ Another . defended action was that in which the Bristol Piano Companv, Limited, claimed the I sum of £8 os. lOd.. from Alexander Dencber Gibson, being amount due 011 a piano supplied by plaintiffs to defendant. Judgment was given for tho amount of claim, together with £1 3s. 6d. costs. Mr. I'. "W. Jackson represented plaintiffs in the action.

POLICE CASES. ; Enos Brent, charged with deserting his ship, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. Alexander M'Swaney, who made use of some very bad language when drunk, was fined £3, in default to.undergo a month's imprisonment. For assaulting Robert Russell on the Railway Wharf, John Lavigne was fined 205., witlj the option of going to gaol for three days. :

Appearing on remand on a charge of embezzlement at Portland, X.S.W., George 'William Geggic was further remanded until this morning. Jaincs Recce, who was convicted of boiiig disorderly while drunk, was fined 205., the alternative being three days' imprisonment. John Stick, who did not appear to answer a charge of drunkenness, was ordered to forfeit £1, the amount of his bail.
