RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB
FINANCIAL AID FOR NEW BUILD
On Monday afternoon the Prime Minister paid a visit to the Returned Soldiers' Club on Lambton Quay for the purpose of having a look over the club's premises. Mr. Massey was received by Captain Simeon and a number of returned men. In addressing a few remarks to the members who were present, the Prime Minister stated that while' tho accommodation -was probably Sfloi enough to make a commencement with, and had served the purpose in view up to the present, still, as tho number of returned soldiers • increased, something very, much better and more in keeping with the capital city.would have- to he provided. He mentioned that He was in communication with several gentlemen; who wore interesting themselves m this matter, and ho felt confident that if rooro suitable premises could bo obtainc:l financial assistance would be lortlicomin". ■ At the same time he wanted to make it clear that this was not-a matter in which Government money could bo used. Captain Simson undertook to make inquiries nnd communi cato tho result to tho Prime Minister Mr Masscv is strongly of the opni ion that tho soldiers' institutions m Wellington deserve every encourage ment from tho public, and if they wen more widely known he felt sure tha' iroro interest in them would be taken and that more financial assistance would hi forthcoming.
