The literary staff of the- Auckland "Star" asseinhled on Saturday morning to bid farewell to Mr: F. W. Doidge, who is leaving shortly for Trehthain* having volunteered for active service. After making complimentary references ti the many good qualities' of Mr. Doidge, the'editor, Mr. T. W. Leys, handed him a wristlet watch as a small token of esteem from the staff. ; The American mail which came" to hand yesterday brings news of the death of Mr. Maurice Farkoa, for ' many years a loading actor and singer with Goo. Edwards's London Gaiety Company. Ho died of apoplexy in Jiif rooms in New York on March 22.' Mr. Lockerby, who is a fine riHe shot, having won severalfcvents, was the recipient, on Saturday, of a wristlet watch from his late colleagues. Mr. P. Morton Inspector of Schools and secretary of the Westland Education Board, for the past twenty-one years, and; for some time' past senior inspector of- the combined Grey and Westland districts, has received notice of his transfer as senior inspector to' .the Taranaki. .• 'Education District. ' . ' ' Captain Donald Sinison, Engineers, and Captain J. H. Grovcr, N.Z. Staff Corps, have arrived at.Trentham Camp and have been attached to 12th Reinforcements. ' The following officers of the 17th Hoinforcenients Infantry have been transferred to the 16th "Reinforcements'- In> fnntry and allocated to the undermentioned units:—2nd Lieut. E. G.
