ARBITRATION COURT
FIXTURES MADE
The Wellington sitting of tire Court of Arbitration commenced yesterday morning. His Honour Mr.. Justice Stringer presided and eitting with him as assessors were Messrs. W. Scott (employers' representative) and J. A. M'Cuilough (employees' representative). Fixtures were made as follow: —
Tuesday, May 2, 10 a.m.—Wellington bootmakers' dispute (partial settlement). 'Wednesday, May 3, 10 a.m.—Wellington storemen's dispute (no' settlement). Thursday, May 4, 2 p.m.—Wellington bakers' dispute (no settlement). Friday, May 5, 10 a.m.—Wellington saddlers (partial settlement); 2 p.m. timber trade employees (no settlement). Tuesday, May 9—Wellington and Marl- 1 borough shearers, application for adjournment of award.
Wednesday, May 10, 10 a.m.—Smith v. Union Steam Ship Company; 2 p.m.. Anderson v. Wilson.
Thursday, May 11—Cartrell v. Wellington Harbour Board; Dorrian v. Ligging; M'Luckie v. Campbell and Burke. Friday, May 12—Drivers' dispute.
}' LAUNDRY WORKERS' DISPUTE. The Court dealt with the question of wages in connection with the agreement between the, Wellington Laundry Workers' Union and the employers. A cotn- ' plete settlement had been reported, but yesterday Mr. J. Read, on behalf of -the union, asked for an increase in the rates of pay, pointing out that since the agreement had been entered into, the Court's pronouncement on the question of war conditions had somewhat altered ihe matter: It was submitted that some of the lower-paid laundry workers were entitled to an advance, and that the minimum .for a male worker should be £2 12s. Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell, who appeared for. the employers, contended that no clmiig:! had taken place in economic conditions since the agreement was made, and that there should be no disturbance of a mutual arrangement. The Court reserved decision.
EXEMPTIONS GRANTED. In tho afternoon the Court heard two applications for exemption from the provision? of the Engineers' Award, and granteU exemption in each case.
