CATHOLIC EDUCATION BOARD

A HANDSOME GIFT. The Roman Catholic Education Board met last week, under the presidency of His Grace Archbishop O'Shea. The Very Rev. Father o'Connell,-S.M., and the Rev. Fathers Smyth, S.M., Adm., and Hurley, S.M., Adm., and Messrs. J. J. L. Burke, B. Doherty, P. D. Hoskins, AV. Gamble, J. D. M'Phec, T. O'Bnen, J. Stratford, and AV. H. Giles were present. Correspondence was read from Mr. AV. Perry, LL.B., officially notifying the board of the bequest made by the late Mr. Keofe in his will, giving to the board his property, No. lib' Grant Road, subject to a life interest in it by his widow, and subject to certain conditions. The property is worth between £1000 and £1400.

The Very Rev. Dean Regniiult, S.M., tendered his resignation as a member of the board, o\yiug to his transference from Wellington, and in doing so made eulogistic references to the great work the board was doing for the City. The secretary reported that the St. Pak rick's Day Celebration Committee had paid the suni of £120 into the board's funds on account of the 1916 celebrations, and £30 on account of the* Boxing Day picnic; whilst it was expected that an additional sum of £10 would be received from the St. Patrick's Day Committee, when the final meeting of that body was held. It was decided to write expressing regret at the resignation of the Very Rev. Dean' Regnault, S.M., from the board, and to convey to him the board's grateful appreciation of the valuable services he had rendered whilst a member. The Very Rev. Father O'Cohnell was elected to the vacancy on the board of trustees, and the Rev. Fathor Smyth takes his place as a member of the board. A motion of sympathy with the A r en Archdeacon Devoy in his illness', and congratulating him on the ordination of his nephew to the priesthood, was passed, the members expressing the hope ,that his illness would be of short duration.
