The Avondale Jockey Club's autumn meeting will be concluded to-day.

The local breeder, Mr. Lan Duncan, would be more than satisfied with the price he got for the Bezonian—Snowstel) colt at the Randwick sales, but the prices received for the Achilles youngsters were poor. The top-figured one was certainly a beautiful colt that it would be difficult to fault, and as Bourlaug, by the same sire, did so well in Victoria, this would attract tho attention of buyers to the Showstell colt.

Returned visitors from Riccarton 6tate that Marc Antony won the Great Autumn Handicap entirely on his merits, and nothing but a good horse could have won after getting such a baflS run. Balboa was practically a broken-down horse when he ran second, under 9st. 31b., in the Great Autumn and critics are unanimous in summing 'up this. as easily his best performance. The chestnut has done little or no work since the Thompson- Handicap meeting. At'Waipukurau on Easter Monday, Hiwitapu broke down badly during the running of the big. handicap. Tho seat of the trouble is in the near fore leg, and .1. Munn's charge is likely to bo on tho retired list for some months to' come. Mr. G'. Hunter'is president of the Waipukurau Jockey Club, and a liberal sup. porter of it. He preferred to start Indigo there in preference to the Feilding Cup this week. The pace set by Rupahu was too fast for the chestnut, who could not begin with his big weight. He made up a-good lot of ground going up the hill, but when it came to finishing the weight told on the Mystification gelding, and Rupahu easily held him oil , in tho run to the, post. Morning, who is getting up in years, still retains his pace, and at Waipukurau on Easter Monday he made the op. position ,look very cheap in the maiden event. Mr. F. Armstrong's National winner was in the front rank the whola way, and as he is well forward.he should' be seen to advantage at Hastings next weok, where he is likely to be a Tunnef over fences. It was stated at Feilding that A. "Julian was going over to Hastings to give the old fellow a jump, and ha is likely to be associated with him in his future races. Those who were at Waipukurau thia week say that Kooya should have won the big handicap instead of filling a minor place. She was not well handled, and. at one stajie of the race was giving the field a big break, but she was going on better than anything at the finish. The two-vear-old handicap on the saniu day resulted in the finest finish. ever seen on the course. Fiftv yards off tha post half a dozen youngsters were in a close bunch, and as they dashed across the line no one but the judge knew which one had scored. The winner, Powder King, is one of F. Lind's Napier team, and ho returned his supporters a big price. The runner-up was Sarah Grand, the half-sister to Theodore. _ Sh« was unlucky in running, and met witi interference several times.
