HARBOUR BOARD'S OFFICES
QUEEN'S BOND TO'. DISAPPEAR.
At question time at the Harbour Board's meeting last evening Mr. J. G. Cobbo asked whether it was proposed to rectify the defects in tho arrangement of the Harbour Board's offices in the building ou tho north sido of the entrance to the Queen's Wharf. Ho questioned, when there wore so many nooks and crannies, if tho work, could be effectively supervised, and stated that tho modern idea of such offices was'to have one large*room in which the staff could bo supervised by one man. .
Mr. Cobbo found several supporters, who agreed that tho arrangements in tho building mentioned were far from being what, they should be. Mr. Fletcher said that plans had been prepared' years ago for taking tho offices under the roof of the head office building, whilst retaining tho Queen's Bond, but now ho was of opinion that Uio board should do away with tho Queen's Bond altogether, and take tho general offices into tho building now occupied by the head office and Bond. 'Ho moved that the engineer draw up plans for the doing away altogether witli the Queen's Bond and placing the whole of the board's offices under the one roof. The chairman mentioned that duo notice would have to be given to those firms who relied on tho Queen's Bond for tho storage of tl cir goods. He thought that three amths' notico •..mild be ample.
