GERMAN BATTLE CRUISERS SHELL LOWESTOFT
SMALL DAMAGE AND FEW ;/-";.:/.CASUALTDES.-.;.. ANOTHER ATTACK ON ■ ' MORT HOMME GERMAN; ONSET BROKEN MORE.ABOUT THE CANAL FRONT FIGHTING ' SERIOUS OUTBREAK IN-"•/-DUBLIN SINN FEINERS I' ARMED REVOLT -'A' much-longed-for event—the omergence of the German fighting ships from the shelter of their mine-blocked lairs—has at last happened, but it was,a affair. A German battle-cruiser squadron, with sea and,air supports, suddenly appeared off Lowestoft, on the English East Coast; fired some shells at the town, and after a brief stay of twenty minutes, during .which they were engaged by British light irui3ers and other craft, with air supports, were chased baok to their hiding place. Some trifling damage', wa6 done, and two or three people were killed—nothing more. In the meantime a British squadron has been busy elsewhere, doing considerable damage to the Gorman coast defences in Belgium. On land, the, Western front has experienced a more or less, routine day, except for a/desperate 'and apparently savage attack on the French line'at Mort Homme, checked by the French gunners.. The recent fighting! on the Suez Canal front seems, to have been a more serious than was at first reported. Further details of the fighting are published to-<lay. From the other ' battle fronts there is little news of any importance. Tho most arresting feature of the news to-day is the Sinn Fein outbreak at Dublin, where armed riots of an extremely serious character have occurred, attended by loss of life. The rioters are 6tated' to be in possession of four or five portions of the city, have seized the Post Office, and cut off the communications. Casement, the renegade, is stated to be involved in the general scheme of the Sinn Feiners to cause tion in Ireland at a time of nationa I anxiety. The offioial report of the secret session of the British Parliament is published to-day.
