ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

A successful meeting of the Welling, ton ■ Accountaut Students' Society was held last evening, when Mr. John L. Arcus, F.1.A.N.Z., delivered a lecture on "Verification of Assets." Mr. Areu a dealt fully with the question of hookdebts and the various means of verifying the balances shown in the debtors' ledger, distinguishing between goods sent out on consignment or hire and purchase and ordinary book debts. The treatment of bad debts was also dealt with from an auditor's point l cf view, and tho lecturer also demonstrated the various methods of verifying various classes of stock on hand with tho idea of endeavouring to ascertain the true value of 6ame as far as possible. The lecturer then proceeded to explain the moans of verifying fixed assets, sueli as plant -and machinery, land and buildings, ships, and the like, and the necessity fny carefully scrutinising securities and deeds connected with tha same. At the conclusion of the lecture n v* merous questions were asked by varU ous members, and a good discussioii took place. A hearty- vote cf thanlcs was accorded to Mr. Arcus for his able lecture.
