_ Lieut. J. R. Stenkouse, of the Antarc- .- tio expedition ship, Aurora, expects to be in Wellington towards the end of • next week. Sir Joseph Ward arrives in Wellington from Christohurch this morning. Captain White-Parsons, R.N.R., harbourmaster at Napier, who left Napier yesterday morning, en route to join H.M.S. Cornwall, was presented with a leather suit case by the Harbour Board's staff. Private Herbert Crawford, aged 25, a native of Adelaide, where his relalives _ reside, died in Victoria Military Hospital on Monday from- a complication of diseases,, accelerated by a weak heart. He went away with the Main Expeditionary Force, and returned by the Tahiti in September. The body will be interred at Karori to-day with military honours. ■' Mr. H. L. Heron, general manager - of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., has been elected-chairman of-the Associated Banks of Victoria. The following appointments were ap« ' proved yesterday by the Wellington Education Board -.—lsland Bay (infant i'« mistress), Miss C. E. A. Acneson; Petone District High School (assistant), Miss I. Thomson and Miss F. L. Ross; Kahautara (sole teacher), Miss F. A. Bodell; iShannou (assistant), Miss J. M. Steel; Kaitoke (sole teacher), Miss C. M. Rains; Manakau (temporary assistant), Miss R. Simons; Clyde Quay (assistant), Miss ■J. Trott. The vacant assistantship at the Normal Scliool (declined by Miss H. M. Webb) is to be readvertised. ■■ At yesterday's meeting of the Educa- ' tion Board, the resignations were received of Miss C. M. Chatwin, assistant' at Featherston; Miss R. M'Coll, sole teaoher at Hinemoa; and Mr. James Hutton', assistant at the Terrace School. /■ Mr. Baxter Buckley, who went to England in October last for furthej . study, has returned to Wellington. Mr. James Nicholson, of Messrs'. Mace and Nicholson, contractors, left Auckland yesterday on a health-recruit- ' ing visit to Honolulu. Mr. E. K.
