GOOD FRIDAY SPORTS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—l have read with deep interest the letter of the Rev. Ernest I. Sola. Other Churchos have, as has been proved,'a larger'.percentage in the Expeditionary Force than he gives, us credit for. -.'While'' this must bo noted, we unite with him in regret and protest against arrangements for Good Fridav being observed as "snorts day" in military camps. Wo join with him, hone the • less, in protest against proposed arrangements for "sports day" bring held on Good Friday in our military camps. A better way, satisfactory to all, couldbe found. We do not desire nor practise a joyless ''Christianity, but-for everything there is a fitting time: The words of Douglas Jerrold' might be applied to many things now happening. "I am' , convinced,"'he says, "that the world .will get tired of this eternal guffaw at all things. After all, life has something serious in it. It cannot all be a comic history of humanity."—l am, ' .''MEMBER OF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Wellington South, April 18, 1916.
